Description

Once the people of the Chikukwa villages suffered hunger, malnutrition and high rates of disease. Now this community has turned its fortunes around using permaculture farming techniques. Complementing strategies for food security, they have built their community strength through locally controlled and initiated programs for permaculture training, conflict resolution, women’s empowerment, primary education and HIV management.

A brother and sister team travelled to Zimbabwe and made this film which shows why this project has been so successful. The Director, Gillian Leahy, is an AFI Award winning documentary maker lecturing in Media Arts at University of Technology, Sydney. Co-producer, Dr. Terry Leahy (her brother) is convenor of the Master of Social Change and Development Program at the University of Newcastle. His research is in sustainable development and food security in Africa. Gillian and Terry were invited by CELUCT, the development organisation of the Chikukwa villages, to make this documentary.

Running time: 52 minutes. Available on DVD in both PAL and NTSC (America) formats, and Blu-Ray.
